Cute Mr Amsterdam on the sunbed next to us on the beach in Bali asked about the best place to get a massage. Our top recommendation for sure was Antique Spa located just a short 15 minute taxi ride from the centre of Seminyak.
Set among rice fields, Antique Spa is calm, clean and run in a totally professional way (with no happy ending). The massages are however, at the very least, strong and highly sensual, using a combination of Swedish, Thai and Balinese techniques. When you arrive you are warmly welcomed by the immaculately groomed Franky and offered iced green tea. You then have the opportunity to discuss your pampering from the menu of treatment packages and to sample the creams or oils you prefer for your massage.
The 90 minute full body treatment and 30 minute head cream bath is outstanding, although there are many other treatment combinations including the popular four hour Indulgence Package. For a strong sensual massage we asked for Wayan and Tiian, two very experienced masseurs. They are completely professional from start to finish with their careful, understanding, magic hands which provide an avalanche of bliss.

The Spa largely caters for a male clientele but also welcomes women and couples. Once sampled, many people revisit the spa several times during their stay in Bali. A tip is to book a day ahead and request one of the male masseurs or discuss your needs with Franky, who was once a masseur here himself before becoming the current house manager. He is very experienced and will make some excellent recommendations to ensure your experience at the spa is a totally pampering experience.
A special feature of the spa is the stone bath filled with rose petals in each of the treatment rooms. The spa also has a pool and sun deck area. The spa will happily arrange a taxi for your return trip. Priced well at about 45 Australian dollars for two hours, Mr Amsterdam will know what ecstasy is really about when he visits Antique Spa. The simple things of life can be blissful if you take the time to enjoy them and it is good karma to tip your masseur generously.
