Splash Down Singapore

Choose to swim in the pool or relax in the whirlpool bubbles while you wait for your next flight.

On our way from Sydney to Paris we had a three hour layover at Singapore’s Changi International Airport. We could have headed straight for the shops, bars or restaurants in this ultra modern airport but this time we thought we would try the swimming pool for a few laps. Located in Terminal 1 close to Gate D the pool and a gym are attached to the Ambassador Transit Hotel on the first floor.

If stopping at the Transit Hotel the pool and gym are free for guests to use, but if just dropping in the cost is S$13.90 to use the pool or the gym. To use both, the price is discounted to around 23 Singapore dollars. You can buy your pool entry ticket at the Ambassador Hotel check in desk and then present it at the pool bar. In return you will receive a pool towel and a voucher for a non-alcoholic drink.

After signing in we changed, made use of the security lockers and after an eight hour flight from Australia we were soon in the pool’s hot tub. We lucked out as two cute hotties from Germany and Sweden also jumped in at the same time to share the bubbles. The perfectly clean warm pool was also large enough to do some decent laps. We were also happy to lie flat for an hour on the pool’s sun beds in the steamy Singapore night air. The showers were hot and shampoo, conditioner and moisturiser were provided free.

Feeling fabulous after our swim and showerwe enjoyed a peach iced tea and said good bye to our two hot tub buddies. The pool area is open until 11:00pm and if you just want to have a drink, entry is free. The bar has a tropicalcasual feel, surrounded by plants, tables and chairs and daybeds for those on a longer, daytime layover. The wifi here is free and there is even a full size pool table near the bar. The equipment in the  small gym is new and looks well maintained.

On our way back to Singapore we will certainly visit the pool again. If you do, don’t forget to pack your swimmers and goggles in your carry on luggage. What a treat and when you get back onboard the aircraft for the next 13 hour flight to Europe, you’ll be glad you had some quality time in the Changi Airport pool.
