We sailed into the Croatian island of Hvar to find a small piece of Adriatic summer paradise. The port town of Hvar is a haven for luxury super yachts, sailboats and powerboats and even outboard dingys that you can rent and play captain for a day.
The coastal resort town of Bol on the Croatian island of Brač is the perfect place to spend a few quiet, relaxing days. We arrived by catamaran from Split, the journey taking about an hour. It's 12:30pm Venice time. Our taxi pulls up on the dock beside the super liner Celebrity Constellation. We will be soon joining our Pied Piper group for an eleven day voyage, leaving Venice, cruising along the Dalmatian Coast and ending in Rome. Seasickness already? Or is it just immense excitement and anticipation making our stomachs rock and roll?
When our super liner (Celebrity Constellation) slowly and silently glided in at dawn to the centuries old port of Dubrovnik in Croatia it was the red roofed brick homes, contrasting with the green cliffs and the sparkling brilliant blue water of the bay, that we first noticed. Known as the 'Pearl of the Adriatic' the bay was truly spectacular, with every type of water craft from sculls to luxury cruisers, adding to the excitement and splendour of our first glimpse of this amazing city.
