Unfortunately our favourite little Sydney bar is now closed.
If you go down to Oxford Street this weekend you’re sure for a big surprise. There’s a new addition to the bar scene in Sydney with the recently opened Baby Bear Bar in the basement of the Burdekin Hotel at 2 Oxford St Darlinghurst. The entrance to this cute little underground bar is at the back of the hotel, via Liverpool Street. Baby Bear Bar is small in size but big on welcome for bears and their friends.

Manager Johnny said, “We’re focused on getting it up and running and getting word out that we’re open every Friday and Saturday from 5pm until late. We think Sydney could do with more small gay bars and places where people can socialise and meet their mates, or where visitors can meet the locals in a friendly, more intimate way. Johnny wants to create an atmosphere where Baby Bear Bar is an ‘old school’ neighbourhood gay bar connecting members of the community.” DJs picked from all over Australia play each night and provide just the right mix. “Music is important to us”, says Johnny, “and the sound and style at Baby Bear Bar is more mature and a point of difference to what you might hear at a regular gay bar.”
A bear bar wouldn’t be right without food. Let’s face it, bears love food, so the menu has bear favourites like burgers, chips, chicken wings and amazing pizzas.
A hot sizzling summer is already upon us in Sydney and special party nights are already planned for each month. Baby Bear Bar has a massive Honey Party and a tribute night to Kylie with DJ Kitty Glitter locked in for 25th January as part of this year’s Australia Day celebrations.
During Mardi Gras 2018 the bar will be expanding to the Oxford Street level for 9 days from 23 February with events every night, including overseas DJs and performers. It will be the place for bears to be during Sydney’s 40th anniversary Mardi Gras celebrations.
